One of our most exciting and ambitious endeavors yet, the UI Lab team joyfully introduces the illuMia project.

In 2017 and 2018, our work will be focused on laying the groundwork for a recurring, large-scale light festival in Miami. In its first year, our team is excited to be prototyping several inaugural installations.

illuMia is first and foremost a creative placemaking project. As such, the work in early to mid 2017 is centered around community.  We will engage children, youth and adults from 4 of Miami’s core communities, Overtown, Wynwood, Liberty City and Little Havana, in creative, STEAM-based workshops and summer programs with the goal of creating digital and analog art pieces that can be included in our 2017 and 2018 prototype installations.

The illuMia project is based on light-art and projection mapping, inspired by amazing global events and installations. Each of illuMia's installations and workshops will use light as an art medium and seeks to explore our community's relationship with energy.

illuMia strives to put the power of solar into the hands of everyday people and inspires them to see the city as a canvas for community expression. The work is intended to drive greater community involvement, inclusion, advocacy and resilience.

We'd love to connect with you and discuss ways you can get involved.
